2023 IHF Beach Handball Global Tour heads to Poland for Stage 3

PĹ‚ock in central Poland will host the third stage of the 2023 IHF Beach Handball Global Tour.

Four men’s teams and four women’s teams will converge on the city for the event which will be played on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July, with all games streamed live.

Stage 3 follows Brazil and Tunisia and marks the second time the European country has welcomed the Global Tour, after it hosted the very first stage on its debut, back in July 2022.

PĹ‚ock lies just over 100km north-west of capital city Warsaw on the Vistula River and is one of the oldest Polish cities, formerly the capital at the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries.

The city is no stranger to beach handball, with the final of the Polish beach handball circuit (ORLEN Summer Superliga 2023 Polish Championship) set to be played there from 5 to 6 August, repeating the success of the same event last year.

It is also home to club side BHT Petra Płock, whose men’s side became the first Polish team to win the EHF Beach Handball Champions Cup last October and are Polish championship title-holders, having won the circuit finale last year, their sixth crown in total. They have also won the Polish Cup seven times and are current title holders.

In fact, you can say Płock is a handball city as it has been home for nearly 60 years to the EHF Champions League side Wisła Płock, who were founded in 1964, and just a few months ago, the Orlen Arena hosted the entire President’s Cup of the 2023 IHF Men’s World Championship.

Tunisia, North Macedonia, Morocco, Algeria, Chile, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay were welcomed to the city, where they played 16 games from 18 to 25 January.
