hummel’s HAND: Winning awards and creating opportunity

Handball fans will have seen players throughout Egypt 2021 pick up the ‘hummel Player of the Match Karma Award’ for all 100* games played to date.

And when those extra special players are chosen, they do not receive a trophy but a statement, allowing an opportunity to provide an act of kindness. The statement reads:

CONGRATULATIONS! You’re now helping to better the conditions for vulnerable girls in Sierra Leone. hummel is celebrating your WIN by donating handball shoes in your name to HAND: Handball for A New Destiny’ – an organisation fighting for girls’ right to play handball.

HAND 'Handball for A New Destiny' is IHF Official Partner hummel’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme which was announced at the XXXVII IHF Ordinary Congress in Sweden in 2019.

HAND believes passionately in the power of female inclusion in handball to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. A number of initiatives formed part of the launch with all directly related to contributing to the United Nations development goals of 5: Gender Equality and 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

The 2019 IHF Women’s World Championship in Japan was the very first IHF World Championship to be involved with HAND with every award winner having two full sets of handball kits and equipment donated in their name, totalling a staggering 1,300 sets!

And at the 2021 IHF Men’s World Championship in Egypt, every single award winner is having shoes donated in their name – in fact, word has already got back to those directly benefitting as you can see from this short video.
