Key highlights of the day: One more day until we find out who is the new World champion

Tick-tock, tick-tock. The last 18 days have been action-packed and only two teams are still standing before the curtain falls on Poland/Sweden 2023, one of the most exciting editions of the IHF Men’s World Championship – two powerhouses fighting for the big trophy.

But until the fireworks on Sunday in the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, here is how we got there.

With their 27th consecutive unbeaten match, Denmark delivered a masterclass in the semi-final against Spain in the ERGO Arena in Gdansk, taking a hard-fought 26:23 win after “Los Hispanos” went all the way until the end, hoping for a miracle. Once again, records were broken in Stockholm, as the highest-ever attendance for a match featuring Sweden was recorded, with 19,125 fans cheering for their side in the crunch semi-final against France. The Nikola Karabatić-less side managed to dictate the tempo and dominate the match, taking a clear 31:26 win to qualify for their eighth final at the IHF Men’s World Championship.

Germany beat Egypt after extra time in the Placement Matches 5-8, while Norway dominated Hungary to set up a rematch of their match last Monday for the Placement Match 5/6.

The schedule for the final day at Poland/Sweden 2023 is now set, with the big final throwing off at 21:00 CET in the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, but four matches will be played on Sunday, with the final standings to be revealed in the evening.
