What a day, right? Wednesday has been amazing for every neutral fan at Poland/Sweden 2023, with four high-profile quarter-finals delivering just the right amount of drama, excellent plays, stalwarts playing at the highest level and teams going against each other at full strength.

A goal from left back Daniel Dujshebaev sent the match into extra-time, where Spain finally celebrated a 35:34 in front of a dejected Norway, who missed a big chance to qualify for the semi-finals. 

Co-hosts Sweden had a 7:0 flawless run that spanned over 12 minutes, which proved to be the backbone of their win against Egypt, who didn’t qualify for the semi-finals for the third time in a row. 

France also had a scare in the first half against Germany, but they bounced back in style, riding a huge match from goalkeeper Rémi Desbonnet, who had 14 saves for a 47% efficiency, to secure their seventh win on the trot (35:28).

Denmark tied the record for the largest winning margin in a quarter-final at the IHF Men’s World Championship, 17 goals, with a flawless performance against Hungary (40:23), extending their unbeaten run in the competition to 26 matches, a new record. 

Now the semi-finals are set, with one to be played in Stockholm, the one featuring Sweden and France, and Denmark and Spain clashing in Gdansk. 

The President’s Cup final has also been played, with Tunisia sealing the trophy for the second time in a row after a flawless win against Chile (38:26).
