Key highlights of the day: Eight exciting games scheduled on Friday

A full day of handball is awaiting, with the first eight-game day at the 27th IHF Men’s World Championship.

Yesterday, 14 teams started their Egypt 2021 campaigns, with a little of everything. France handed Norway a 24:28 loss in one of the most anticipated games of the preliminary round after a masterstroke by goalkeeper Wesley Pardin.

In the same Group E, Switzerland capped a mad 48-hours whirlwind with a 28:25 win against Austria, while in Group B, Algeria mounted one of the most memorable comebacks in recent handball history, taking a 24:23 win against Morocco.

Slovenia recorded their best ever attack in terms of goals at the IHF Men’s World Championship as they steamrolled Republic of Korea, winning 51:29.

It is now the time for the rest of the 16 teams to enter the championship, with reigning European champions Spain taking on Brazil in one of the most exciting games of the day in Group B.

Reigning world champions Denmark eye nothing but a win against Bahrain in Group D, while European powerhouse Germany are big favourites against Uruguay in Group A.

Croatia will try to kickstart their campaign with a win against Japan, while 2015 IHF Men’s World Championship silver medallists Qatar are trying to be back among the best with a win against Angola in Group C.

With eight games already played at the 27th IHF Men’s World Championship, strict health measures have been put in place to avoid a COVID-19 outbreak. There have been nine positive cases recorded in the mandatory PCR tests upon arrival, with all cases having been immediately isolated.

There are still exactly 100 games to be played at Egypt 2021 so fans who think they have what it takes to be a coach should still give the Be A Manager game a try. Select your 14-player team in the allocated budget and compete with your friends to see who is the best of the best.

Do not forget to set your alarm and watch your favourite teams on TV and follow all the updates of the IHF regarding the IHF men’s flagship event.
