Coming up: Focus on gender equality and the best of handball

With the IHF Women’s World Championship ending 2021 in spectacular style, 2022 is already well underway with the European, Asian and South and Central America men’s continental championships in the books.

Three continents are in action at the 18th edition of the Men’s Mediterranean Handball Confederation Championship in Turkey, while leagues across the world, including the men’s and women’s EHF Champions League and European League competitions are midway through and the 11th season of the SEHA League has started.

The CAHB Women’s African Junior Championship finishes tomorrow and the youth edition starts on Sunday.

Handball on the sand is also well underway across the world, with the Copa Argentina concluding this weekend, Kenya’s league entering its final stage and the European Beach Handball Tour throwing off.

But there is more to look forward to, much more, as we take a closer look at what is coming up in March.

The first stage of the 2023 IHF Men’s World Championship Qualification Europe – Phase 2 will see games played on 16/17 and 19/20 March and the South and Central America Handball Confederation (SCAHC) will hold their qualification events for the IHF Men’s and Women’s Youth (U18) Beach Handball World Championships as well as the IHF Women’s Junior (U20) World Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 21 to 26 March.

Asia will hold their junior and youth continental championships (indoor), which also act as qualification events for the respective World Championships, in Kazakhstan from 7 to 14 and 18 to 25 March, respectively. The continent’s men's senior and youth beach handball teams will take to the sand in Islamic Republic of Iran from 22 to 31 March.

Away from competition, March will focus on gender equality. Incorporating ‘International Women’s Day’ on 8 March, the IHF will be providing a wide range of digital content and coverage throughout the month under the theme ‘Break the Bias’.

Further, the nominees for the 2021 IHF World Players and Coaches of the Year will be announced next week, with voting opening on 7 March.
