The Best: Main Round, President’s Cup: Group Phase
14 Dec. 2021

Throughout the 2021 IHF Women’s World Championship Main Round and President’s Cup: Group Phase a total of 46 matches were played with some impressive individual and team performances, statistically-speaking.
Every single match - like all at Spain 2021 - saw fans have the opportunity to help decide the ‘hummel Player of the Match’ award, via the IHF Official App with the IHF Analyst on site nominating a shortlist of three influential players with five minutes remaining and getting fans to vote.
Four teams have perfect records in the Main Round and President’s Cup: Group Phase with Cameroon, Denmark, Spain and Romania all taking three awards from their three matches but just Spain and Denmark can boast a perfect record at Spain 2021 with both teams taking six awards from their six games so far, although Cameroon have impressed with five awards in total.
Just three teams have failed to win an award so far, but two are still in action, with Tunisia, along with Uzbekistan, having one game left to play on Wednesday (15 December). People’s Republic of China leave the competition without taking one home.
With 20 awards out of a possible 94, goalkeepers top the chart, followed by centre back (17) and the other backcourt players, on the right and the left (15 each) in third spot.
But one player stands head and shoulders over everyone else – Republic of Korea centre back Lee Migyeong. The OMRON club player in Japan has won the individual award four times, two ahead of her nearest rivals. She wears the famous ‘Michael Jordan’ shirt #23, and along with the goalkeeper #12 jersey, they are the most common award winners, with seven each, 14 in total.
