Active players among successful participants in Monastir D Licence course

A recent IHF D Licence course held in Monastir, Tunisia, saw close to a 100% success rate, with 34 of 36 participants securing the qualification after furthering their knowledge across the six-day course. The course, which ran from 16 to 21 September, was led by IHF lecturer and IHF Commission of Coaching and Methods Africa representative Dr Nahla Boudhina.

Dr Boudhina reported a high level of enthusiasm in the course, particularly given that most participants had a background playing handball. “The majority are working coaches and others are still active players,” said Dr Boudhina, adding that there was “great commitment” shown throughout the programme.

The course did not feature only Tunisian participants, but a small number from outside the country, including from Congo and Egypt. The working coaches represented handball in different age categories in both men’s and women’s handball, from youth through to open age. Alongside the coaches and active players were some teachers and specialists in the game. “A heterogenous group, but all with good handball knowledge,” reported Dr Boudhina.

One challenge for those participants who are still active players is transferring their knowledge to the theoretical, mainly written, components of such a course. As with all IHF educational courses, this D Licence course included practical and theoretical components, as well as a concluding assessment.

The D Licence course was one of two conducted in Monastir in September, with a B Licence course held earlier in the month under the guidance of IHF Commission of Coaching and Methods members Paul LandurĂ© and Marko Sibila.Â
