IHF President welcomes HFR President to IHF headquarters

IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa met with the President of the Handball Federation of Russia (HFR), Sergey Shishkarev, today at the IHF headquarters in Basel.

The main point on the agenda was Russia’s presentation of their current development plans including the new coach of the women’s national team, Ambros Martin. Martin replaces Rio 2016 Olympic Games gold-medal winning coach Evgeny Trefilov, who, in turn, will assume the position of Vice-President of the Handball Federation of Russia. The Russian women’s national team will compete in the women’s EURO qualifiers beginning tomorrow as well as at the 24th IHF Women’s World Championship later this year.

The Handball Federation of Russia proposed several ideas to engage in IHF projects – on the one hand to further develop handball within their own federation, for example through Handball at School courses, and on the other to help developing handball nations. One way to do so would be to get involved in the IHF New Markets’ Project.

The IHF looks forward to a continuous fruitful collaboration with the Handball Federation of Russia in order to grow the sport at national and international level.
