Battipaglia win inaugural Italian Wheelchair Handball Championship

Crazy Ghosts Battipaglia have won the 2023 Italian Wheelchair Handball Championship, held across the weekend of 9-10 December in Teramo.

Four teams – Crazy Ghosts Battipaglia, Superteam Libertas Perugia, Pallamano Vigevano and Michelotti Toscana Livorno – from across Italy competed in the debut edition of the event held in the Palasannicolò in the city just under 200km north-east of capital city Rome.

The championship was organised by the Italian Handball Federation (FIGH) in collaboration with the Italian Paralympic Committee (Comitato Italiano Paralimpico – CIP),

Battipaglia, part of the ‘Crazy Ghosts Wheelchair Sports Club’ based in the south-east of Italy, won all five of their games 2:0 in a dominant display. 

The championship was ‘…part of the activity carried out by FIGH aimed at social and promotional areas,’ in the region which saw presentations from the FIGH to the council chamber of the Province of Teramo, in the presence of the local political authorities and FIGH representative Lucia Verticelli.
