At the IHF Council meeting in Cairo, Egypt, the hosting rights of future IHF World Championships were awarded.

The IHF Council has voted for the following events to be hosted by these member federations:

2021 IHF Men’s and Women’s U17 Beach Handball World Championships: Portugal (POR)
2022 IHF Women’s Junior (U20) World Championship: Slovenia (SLO)
2022 IHF Women’s Youth (U18) World Championship: Georgia (GEO)
2023 IHF Men’s Junior (U21) World Championship: Germany (GER)
2023 IHF Men’s Youth (U19) World Championship: Croatia (CRO)
2024 IHF Women’s Junior (U20) World Championship: North Macedonia (MKD)
2025 IHF Men’s Junior (U21) World Championship: Poland (POL)
2025 IHF Men’s Youth (U19) World Championship: Slovenia (SLO)

2025 IHF Women’s World Championship: Germany (GER), Netherlands (NED)
2027 IHF Men’s World Championship: Germany (GER)
2027 IHF Women’s World Championship: Hungary (HUN)

Further to these events, the re-allocation of the 2020 Women’s Youth (U18) World Championship has been made, with Croatia (CRO) taking over hosting rights and duties following the decision made earlier this month by the Chinese Handball Association and IHF.

The 2024 IHF Women’s Youth (U18) World Championship is to be re-announced to find new potential host nations in order to spread the events further.

Speaking about the awarding of the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship, German Handball Federation (DHB) President Andreas Michelmann was full of praise for the handball family.

“Handball connects," he said. "We saw that in the preparatory talks with our Dutch friends and now in Cairo,” while President of the Netherlands Handball Federation, Tjark de Lange, was looking forward to getting started.

“We are very proud that we will host the 2025 IHF World Championship together with the German Handball Federation,” he said. “This will allow us to present handball across the Netherlands for three weeks in December 2025 which fits perfectly into our strategy.

The IHF would like to thank the National Federations who submitted bids and congratulate the chosen hosts.
