San Francisco CalHeat books ticket to 2021 IHF Men's Super Globe

For the first time, San Francisco CalHeat will represent the North America and Caribbean Handball Confederation (NACHC) at an IHF Men's Super Globe. The club from United States won the NACHC regional qualifier to book a spot at the 2021 edition which will be held in Saudi Arabia from 5 to 9 October.

Due to existing travel restrictions, only three teams took part in the qualification which was played from 25 to 27 August in Fremont, California. In a round-robin tournament consisting of just three matches, home side San Francisco earned the maximum of points against fellow American club New York City Team Handball Club and Mexico's Club Ministros de Monterrey.

In fact, San Francisco booked their ticket to the IHF Super Globe after just two match days. On Wednesday, the 2019 United States national champions made the first step towards this goal by defeating Club Ministros de Monterrey, 31:27. And on Thursday, the team coached by Danilo Rojevic claimed an even more convincing victory against New York City Team Handball Club, 29:21.

In the last match of the event on Friday, Monterrey and New York City played for pride, and in a tight battle, the Mexican side snatched a consolation victory in the last minute, 31:30. Monterrey finished second, while New York City, who represented NACHC at the 2019 Super Globe, took third with no points.
