Key highlights of the day: Last rest day before the big showdown

There can be only one, right? Only one team that can win the gold medal and on Sunday, we will find out who that team is.

Prior to the semi-finals on Friday, there were four unbeaten teams in the 27th IHF Men’s World Championship, but now only two of them will face for the trophy.

Denmark can become only the second side in 47 years after France to defend their title, after never giving the lead away against Spain. The 35:33 win was an all-time classic in the semi-finals at the IHF Men’s World Championship, with Mikkel Hansen being once again at his best, scoring 12 times.

Earlier, Sweden handed France a painful 32:26 defeat to become one of the biggest surprises at Egypt 2021. It is Sweden’s first final berth since 2001, despite the Scandinavians’ serious makeover, with only nine players left from the Men’s EHF EURO 2020 last January.

Left back Frankis Marzo is set to become the first-ever Qatari who finishes as top scorer at an IHF Men’s World Championship. Despite being out of the competition since the quarter-finals, Marzo leads the ranking with 58 goals, four more than Norwegian left back, Sander Sagosen, who also cannot improve his tally. The first player who is still in with a chance is Sweden’s wing, Hampus Wanne, but he will need to score 11 goals in the final to pass Marzo after putting nine past France. After his 12-goal outing against Spain, Hansen jumped to sixth place, with 41 goals.
