Four teams from South and Central America eye IHF Men’s Super Globe berth

With the 2021 IHF Men’s Super Globe, which will be staged in Saudi Arabia from 5 to 9 October, rapidly approaching, participating teams are ramping up their preparations.

While some have already earned their tickets, others will fight to be part of the tournament.

This is the case for the South and Central America representative, with a four-team tournament, which will take place from 24 to 26 August in Taubaté, Brazil, ready to send its winner to the 2021 IHF Men’s Super Globe.

Three Brazilian teams – HC Taubaté, EC Pinheiros and Nacional HC – and one from Uruguay – Club Atletico Olimpia – will take part in the South and Central American qualification event for the 2021 IHF Men’s Super Globe.

The tournament will be played in round-robin format and the winner – the team with the most points after three games – will then have the chance to represent the South and Central America Handball Confederation at the 2021 IHF Men’s Super Globe.

HC Taubaté, who had five players in Brazil’s squad at the IHF Men’s World Championship in 2021, are the overwhelming favourites to win the competition, having already represented the South and Central America Handball Confederation in the last two editions of the IHF Men’s Super Globe.

In 2018, Taubaté finished fifth, while in 2019, they finished sixth. The best placement for a team from the South and Central America Handball Confederation at the IHF Men’s Super Globe came in 2002 when Metodista SBC finished third.

Taubaté have qualified for the IHF Men’s Super Globe in five of the last six editions, while a Brazilian side have played in the competition in each of the 13 editions organised.
