Competitions and development in China on the agenda at IHF Executive Committee meeting

The IHF Executive Committee met today for their eighth meeting of this electoral period in Saudi Arabia amidst the IHF Super Globe.
 
The President of the Saudi Arabia Handball Federation began the meeting welcoming the Executive Committee and expressing his gratitude to Dr Moustafa for awarding the IHF Super Globe to Saudi Arabia, which is an honour for his country. The President added the country supports and welcomes international sporting events because of the power it has bringing people together. He wished all the teams and participants a pleasant stay and welcomed any further cooperation with the IHF and other National Federations. IHF President Dr Moustafa then, on behalf of the IHF, conveyed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia for hosting the event, as well as for the efforts put into the organisation.
 
The meeting proceeded with an overview of recent successful competitions including the Pan American Games in Lima and the 2019 IHF Women’s Super Globe in China, followed by a presentation of the current situation regarding the 2020 Olympic Qualification Tournaments. A brief finance review, including the budget of the International Testing Agency, concluded the first part of the session.
 
Talks about the IHF New Markets’ Project meetings in Wuxi, China earlier this month followed including detailed discussions about a China action plan for 2019 to 2022, the Chinese Super League, which recently concluded its first season, as well as building a strong youth and junior development programme.
 
The talks concluded with an overview of the Handball at School Programme that took place in China earlier this year. The programme led by H@S Working Group Chairwoman Dr Ilona Hapkova, visited seven cities across China to prepare educators and coaches at various levels to teach handball to children and young people. Her visit also saw more than 300 new D-licence coaches.
 
The meeting was attended by IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa, 1st Vice-President Joël Delplanque, Treasurer Anna Rapp, Executive Committee Members Frantisek Taborsky and Narcisa Lecusanu as well as IHF General Director Amal Khalifa and Competitions Director Patric Strub.
