2024 IHF Beach Handball Global Tour – Stage 2: location, dates, team and schedule revealed

The teams, location, dates and playing schedule for the second stage of the 2024 IHF Beach Handball Global Tour (BHGT) have been revealed.
The historic port city of Cádiz in south-west Spain will host the men’s and women’s national teams of Germany, Portugal, Denmark and Spain across the two-day event taking place on Thursday 15 August and Friday 16 August.
Featuring 16 games in total – eight in each competition – the stage will start with a four-team, preliminary group in each competition of round-robin games across one-and-a-half matchdays – Thursday 15 August and the morning of Friday 16 August – before the 3/4 placement and final matches on Friday evening.
German women the team to beat in Spain
All four teams in the women’s competition know each other well, having met last month in Asia at the 2024 IHF Women’s Beach Handball World Championship in China.
Winners and European and The World Games champions Germany will be the team to beat in Cadiz, with the fourth, fifth and sixth-placed teams (Denmark, Spain and Portugal) in China looking to upset Alexander Novakovic’s side.
At China 2024, Germany beat Denmark (2-1, 25:22, 20:21, SO 9:8) in the semi-final and Spain (2-1, 12:17, 19:18, SO 12:10) in the quarter-final, while in the main round Denmark defeated Germany (2-0, 20:18, 21:12) and Spain saw off Portugal (2-0, 28:10, 17:14).
Last year, Portugal beat Denmark (2-1) in the quarter-finals of the 2023 EHF Women’s Beach Handball European Championship on home sand in Nazare. In the same competition, Germany beat Spain (2-1) in the semi-finals and Spain beat Portugal (2-1) for bronze.
China 2024 silver medallists Denmark look to win first-ever Global Tour stage
The men’s competition also feature rematches of China 2024 with World Championship runners-up Denmark facing Spain again after their 2-0 (25:16, 23:22) main round victory last month.
Portugal go up against Germany for the third time in three months after losing in the main round 0-2 (18:25, 12:17) but then winning 2-0 (25:24, 20:18) to claim world championship bronze.
The Germans also met Spain at China 2024, defeating them 2-1 (27:20, 26:27, SO 9:8) in the quarter-final, but then lost their semi-final against another Cadiz-bound side, Denmark, 0-2 (18:25, 20:21).
At the 2023 EHF Men’s Beach Handball European Championship last year Portugal beat Spain (2-1) in the quarter-finals, Germany beat Denmark (2-1) in the semi-finals and Denmark beat Portugal (2-1) in the bronze medal match.
Following the conclusion of the stage in Cadiz, the 2024 Spanish Beach Handball Championship will take place at the same venue. Last year, at the competition in Almeria, 300 teams and 3,500 athletes attended.

About the IHF Beach Handball Global Tour
The IHF Beach Handball Global Tour was launched at the 2022 IHF Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball World Championships in Greece and debuted in Gdansk, Poland with Croatia winning the men’s tournament and Spain taking the top spot in the women’s tournament.
The 2023 IHF Beach Handball Global Tour visited Brazil, Tunisia and Poland before the Finals Stage was held in Doha, Qatar in November, with Qatar’s men and Brazil’s women taking the overall titles.
The 2024 IHF Beach Handball Global Tour commenced in May with Stage 1 in Maricá, Brazil. The host nation won both the men’s and women’s competitions.
