Two of the teams that will be making their debuts at the IHF Women’s Youth World Championship – Algeria and Iceland – were allocated to Group A during the draw, and, thus, they will both be eyeing their first win ever in the competition.
This will be the first major tournament for Iceland women’s youth national team, therefore it will be interesting to see how they cope at this level, with the added pressure and lack of experience, after the European side were awarded a Wild Card for North Macedonia 2022.
With the popularity of the sport soaring in the small state that counts a little under 50,000 people, all eyes will definitely be on this site, after they finished third at the W17 EHF Championship last summer, losing the semi-final against the Netherlands, but securing a win against Ukraine in the bronze-medal match.
Centre back Lukka Arge has been instrumental in that tournament, scoring 30 goals in five matches, as the Faroe Islands secured three wins, drew one game, and lost another.
Brazil are back at the IHF Women’s Youth (U18) World Championship after missing out for the first time ever in 2018. They have certainly played their part and proved they belong in the competition at the 2022 South and Central American Women's Youth Handball Championship in April, securing the first place by sweeping their opponents.
