World Champion Nascimento appointed as handball role model for Nanjing

She was World Handball Player of the Year 2012, she is reigning World Champion – and now Brazilian top star Alexandra do Nascimento has a completely new role, being Handball Athlete Role Model for the second edition of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2014 in Nanjing, China (16 to 28 August 2014). As part of the Culture and Education Programme, every International Federation appoints an experienced and successful Athlete Role Model for its sport – and the International Handball Federation has chosen Brazilian world star Alexandra do Nascimento (32). It is the task of the Athlete Role Models to promote the YOG and the Olympic values in their respective home countries and during the Games. In creating the Youth Olympic Games, the IOC has developed a mission of building an event that educates, engages and empowers aspiring young people around the world to play a positive and active role in their communities. Alexandra do Nascimento will thus have discussions with young sportsmen and sportswomen and tell about her sports career and experience.
