On winning against Chinese Taipei after losses in the games before:
“I am proud of my team, we are very strong and often trained in the rain and I think it was the key today.
“It’s difficult for me and my team but I think we could be good today because of the rain. It’s very important. It’s a very strong and a very good feeling to be in the top four.”
Gil PIRES (BRA), player:
On winning the men’s semi-final against Qatar 2-0 in the rain:
“We know it’s not good for the sport to have the same final every time but we train hard for this.
“We play beach handball with love and we put all our energy inside the court.

On winning the men’s semi-final against Qatar 2-0:
“The competition here in Budapest is amazing, the weather today did not make for really good beach handball, but it is a good atmosphere with high level teams.
“We studied Qatar a lot and we waited for them to do the same things [today] in the other matches, but it’s only a one-goal difference in the sets so it’s important.”
On the importance of the towel he had in his hand during the match, to wipe the ball:

On keeping their concentration at such a high level as the world’s number one side:
“We concentrate in all of our matches in the competition; we had a long period of training over 18 days, practising three times a day, but we didn’t have a match and we only get one in the tournament.
“We have a focus: we came here to be a champion.
"We joke with everybody, we make sound, music and we smile and we are happy to stay here, but we know we come here to be a champion and we have this focus, we made a target for us and to achieve this we need to be focused.
On playing Croatia in the final tomorrow:

On beating Australia 2-0 in the 7/8 Placement Match and celebrating for 10 minutes afterwards in the rain:
“We celebrated so much because it’s the first time we can go to the World Games, in Poland. We saw the video of Australia several times and we talked with the coach how to beat them and what we need to fix to do that.
“Seventh sounds great though because we train a lot and it’s a lot of effort to be here, but we need to continue training and be better for us next time. We need to include all the small girls and make the sport better in our country so we can be better and maybe go to the next main round in the World Games.”
On the step up from finishing 7th in 2016, to go to the Consolation Round and to finishing 6th in 2018, to go to the Main Round:
“I hope we can, but need to work hard. I think all the countries that are in the main round are countries with history and who have played a lot of competitions, but we know there is not a lot of distance between them and us. For example, there was a short distance against Italy and we played nice against Hungary - we need to work a lot but we are not so far.”
On throwing Head Coach Salvador Comparone up and down at the final buzzer:
“He’s the coach, the head, the one who see the match from outside and has the ideas. We need someone to have the big picture and that is the most important.
“We are happy that he is happy, it’s a lot of years of work, and it’s important we as players recognise that (by throwing him up and down).”
Mile BEGONJA, father of player Dario BEGONJA (CRO):
On celebrating with his son after Croatia won the semi-final against Hungary:
“I came from Vinkovci in eastern Croatia and I’m a very proud father. This world championship is the first one for him.
“Croatia are a very strong team and it’s very important for kids and fans back home to see a team in the final. Sometimes life is bad but we look to sport in Croatia and it is important for us.”
