Greece squander recklessly the quarter-final

20:00: Korea – Hungary 31:34 (13:18)

Second victory sends Hungary to the match for place 17

Hungary won in the second placement match for the places 17 to 20 against Korea 31:34. With their second victory during this Men’s Junior World Championship the Hungarians qualified for the match for place 17 against Serbia on 25 July. The Hungarian team was already during the first half the better team. So Hungary made it to a 18:13 lead after the first 30 minutes. In the second half of the game, Korea caught up a little bit, but didn´t get close enough to compete with their competitors. In the end it was a well deserved win for the European team, although they are not really satisfied with their result of the Championship. For Korea the tournament will end tomorrow with the match for place 19 against Argentina. Best scorer in this match was the Korean player Jin Ho Jung, who scored seven goals.

Eight-final

20.30: Greece – Tunisia 21:24 (13:13)

In the evening session of the eight-final Greece lost against Tunisia with 21: 24 and has to play the placement matches 9 to 16, while Tunisia is heading forward to the quarter-final against Spain. Although Greece lost this decisive match they had the big chance to beat Tunisia. After a very tight first half – it ended with a 12:12 draw – the Greek team started a great series, which brought them to a 19:14 lead after 43 minutes. Greece seemed to be on their way to the quarter-final and the 1.500 enthusiastic spectators were celebrating the host of this Junior World Championship. But unexpectedly the situation turned completely with an eighteen-minute-blackout of the Greek youngsters. While Greece only made one goal during this period, Tunisia scored ten and took suddenly the lead with 24:20. The match was decided and the Greek fans were disappointed. Best scorers of this match were Stathis Zampounis for Greece and Marouan Chouiref for Tunisia, who both scored six goals. 

20.30: Denmark – Norway 35:30 (20:12)

Denmark beats Norway

The encounter of the two Scandinavian teams from Denmark and Norway in the eight-final ended with a decisive 35:30 victory for the Danish selection. Denmark will now go to the quarter-final and will meet another Scandinavian team. They will play against Sweden, who beat the Russia in the last second of the extra time. Norway will play for the places 9 to 16 and will play against Russia first. From the very beginning the match between Denmark and Norway was clearly decided, as the Danes controlled the game from the first minute. Denmark was leading with eight goal difference after the first half (20:12). The eight-final was nearly pre-decided. During the second half Norway increased to a better result. But they were never in a position to threaten the Danish victory, even though they made it to 30:33, one minute before the end. All in all was a deserved victory for the red-and-white team.
