Denmark win a high-class Scandinavian duel

Denmark beat Sweden 28:27 in the first quarterfinal of the Men’s Junior World Championship and qualified for the semifinal on Thursday 28 July where they will meet Tunisia. In this highly thrilling Scandinavian duel, Sweden had indeed the better start, leading 5:2 after seven minutes, but Denmark caught up and scored four goals in a row. All in all it was a tight match in which no one of the two competitors could play out more than a two goal advance during the first 30 minutes. The halftime result of 17:17 reflected the run of the match up to then. After the break the match started to become dramatic. Until short before the end score changed for both teams constantly from one-goal-lead to draw. In minute 54, after Sweden survived a double two-minutes-penalty without any damage, the result was 26:27 and both teams started to become nervous. No goal was scored for several minutes, but at minute 58:30, Sweden became punished with another two-minutes-penalty. Denmark took this chance and scored two goals, the last and decisive one, two seconds before the end of the match. Best scorers of the match were Patrick Wiesmach Larsen for Denmark and Andreas Nilsson for Sweden who each shot six goals. 

Quarterfinal II

18:00: Tunisia – Spain 31:30 (13:15)

Big surprise: Tunisia beats Spain and goes to the semifinal

In the other quarter final which was played simultaneously to the match between Sweden and Denmark, Tunisia beat the Spanish team with 31:30 and will now play against Denmark in the semifinal. In the end it was a very tight match even though Spain made it to a four-goal-lead (18:14) after 36 minutes. But Tunisia was a very strong competitor, who always caught up again. That’s why it wasn´t a big surprise, when the North African team equalized to 25:25 after 49 minutes. Then the showdown started – the last ten minutes of the match were a real thriller. After 55 minutes Tunisia was leading 28:27 for the first time in the second half –and even increased to 30:27 (56.). But nevertheless the match was not decided. The team from Europe made it really tight and caught up to 30:30 after 59 minutes. Hafed Bouhassa was the lucky player, who scored the decisive goal for Tunisia 30 seconds before the end of this very exciting match. Best shooter of this quarter final was Amine Bannour, who scored twelve times for Tunisia.
