Iran lost in the overtime

In the first match of the placement round for the places 9 –12 Portugal won after 10 minutes extra time against the team of Iran 37:33. After 60 minutes the match was surprisingly 30:30 draw. During this Men’s Junior World Championship the performances of the Iranian team became better and better. Even though they lost against Portugal, they made it up to the overtime and had great chances to win the match during the regular 60 minutes. After the first half Iran was leading 17:12 and the result looked a bit like a pre decision. But after the break Portugal came up and took refuge in the additional time. In the next ten minutes of the match Portugal was the better team and won that match as Iran lacked of power. Portugal now is going to play for place nine against the winner of the match between Norway and Brasil, Iran will play against the looser for place eleven. Best scorer of this match was the Iranian player Sajad Esteki, who made twelve goals for his team.

Placement round 13 – 16

16:00: Qatar – Algeria 21:22 (12:11)

Qatar and Algeria met on equal level

The first match of the placement round for the places 13 to 16 between Qatar and Algeria was a really tight one. At least Algeria won this match 22:21 with a goal, scored in the closing second of the game, by Hchem Daoud and will now go to the match for place 13 against the winner of the confrontation between Russia and Greece, while Qatar will play against the loser of that match. The two teams met each other on eye level. No one of the two competitors could play out more than a two goal advance. After the first 30 minutes Qatar, who made several good performances during this Junior World Championship, was leading 12:11. But after the second half they lost the game and were the more unfortunate team. Best shooter of this match was Khoumini Hamoud, who scored five times for Algeria.
