The fourth matchday of the 2018 IHF Women’s Beach Handball World Championship in Kazan, Russia sees the end of the main and consolation rounds

Matchday 4: Main Round and Consolation Round – Day 2

- Spain, Poland, Brazil, Russia and Norway already through
- Two quarter-final tickets remain up for grabs in group I
- Paraguay, Uruguay and Chinese Taipei in contention, Greece one foot in next round
- One space in the quarter-finals remains from group II
- Denmark, Vietnam and Thailand fighting for final spot
- France and Australia play off in the consolation round for top spot

Main Round: Group 1
Already-qualified Poland and Spain face each other today as Spain look to continue their winning run at Kazan 2018. The Polish side managed to recover from a shock shootout loss to Paraguay in their first game yesterday to beat Greece but Spain, having lost just one set are looking strong in their quest to retain the title.

Uruguay are fighting for their lives against Greece, knowing a win will put them in the quarter-finals, while Chinese Taipei and Paraguay compete for that much-coveted final eight spot.

Main Round: Group 2
Before the tournament, many observers would have said that they Brazil and Norway to be in the quarter-finals at least, but they are also joined by Russia who have returned to world championship action after a long break.

That means just one place remains and if Denmark beat Thailand it will go to them, however if Thailand win it will go to them if Russia beat Vietnam. Brazil play Norway in a repeat of their Budapest 2016 main round match which the South Americans won 2:0.

Consolation Round
Mexico’s Edna Viridiana Uresti Valencia continues as the Kazan 2018 best goalscorer, with 71 points and her side will be looking to get their first win in Russia when they take on continental rivals USA.

France, who a day of double victory delight yesterday play Australia in a play-off to decide the group winners.
