The host loses – Netherlands after two victories on their way to the quarter-final - Summary of the Groups A and B of match day 2

Group A
Denmark – Argentina 29:19 (14:8)

The women's youth from Denmark couldn’t have a more successful start to the WCh tournament. In their first WCh match, they clashed Argentina and won clearly 29:19. They ran over their opponents already from the beginning of the match and led 6:0 after only ten minutes. Argentina needed a long time to come into play. Only in the middle of the first half, the South Americans could catch up to 6:9. But afterwards the Danish team prevailed again and went into half time 14:8. In the second half, the match was a bit more balanced, but the Danes defended brilliantly. In the final stage, when the match had already been decided, the Argentinean team gave up all hope, so that the opponent could score more goals. In the end, they were defeated 19:29. The top scorer was Natalia Vico (Argentina) who scored seven goals. The Danes Kathrin Heindahl and Louise Burgaard both achieved six goals. Whereas Denmark’s chances are great to reach the quarter-final after its first successful match, the Argentinean team (0:4) has to get prepared that they will possibly be kicked out of the tournament by Germany the day after tomorrow.

Germany – Netherlands 28:34 (9:21)
The girls from the Netherlands are making their way to the quarter-final. After the 34:28 (21:9) victory against a German team which didn’t play well during the first half, the Dutch already succeeded for the second time. It took only 20 minutes for the Dutch to decide the match, leading 14:4. They are leading the ranking 4:0, whereas the Germans who at least became better during the second half have to beat Argentina the day after tomorrow, in order to maintain the possibility of reaching the quarter-final, which is actually quite small (0:4). Tamara van der Pijl who scored ten goals was the top scorer of the Dutch team which can finally reach the quarter-final if they defeat Angola.

Group B
Norway – Ivory Coast

After the team of the Ivory Coast informed the IHF that it will not participate in this WCh, all matches in which the Ivory Coast was scheduled to play will be canceled without evaluation.

Uruguay – Dominican Republic 33:26 (8:13)
Although the team from the Dominican Republic led 13:8 at half time, they missed the opportunity to achieve two very important points to reach the next round, as they were defeated by Uruguay 26:33. After a strong second half, the South Americans succeeded in turning the match around, as their opponent became weaker, and finally winning the match. The crucial phase was the beginning of the second half when the team of the Dominican Republic lost its half time lead within only a few minutes and was down 14:15 after 36 minutes. Afterwards the host didn’t come into play any more. Uruguay’s best scorer was Mercedes Saiz (eight goals) and Yacaira Tejeda was the best scorer among the opponents (nine goals). Uruguay (2:2) still has the possibility to reach the next round whereas the Dominican Republic is under pressure after this defeat.
