Perfect surprise: The Dominican Republic qualified for the quarterfinals - Summary of match day 5

Group A

Germany – Denmark 16:26 (8:11)

Only a success against Denmark could have helped the Germans, to maintain their chance to the quarterfinals. It turned out differently. Though Germany left the game open to the 20th minute (6:6), but the Danish team prevailed, leading by 11:8 after 30 minutes, and decided the match in the final phase. Best scorer of the Danes was Katrin Heindahl with six goals. The Germans, who will now compete for a good placement, had their top scorer in Freya Stonawski (five goals). Denmark will play in the quarterfinals, even if they will loose the last match of the preliminary round against the Netherlands.

Group B

Uruguay – Norway 29:41 (12:21)

Norway paved the way for the quarterfinals. With a convincing 41:29 victory against Uruguay the Scandinavians are ranked on the top of group B (4:0 points). Already in the first half Scandinavia demonstrated their strength by leading with nine goals (21:12).

Surprisingly is the answer to the question, who will go with the Norwegians into the quarterfinals: Host Dominican Republic could even loose the last game of the preliminary round and still would have the best goal difference compared to their opponents from Japan and Uruguay, who are equal in points (2:4).

Group C

DR Congo – France 13:35 (6:13)

The encounter between DR Congo and France led to a very clear victory of the equipe tricolore (35:13). Until the 28th minute the Africans still could keep the game balanced with a score of 6:12, but after playing 15 minutes without a single goal the goal difference dramatically raised up to 6:24 after 42 minutes. Best scorers of the game were the two French players Roseline Ngo and C. Lassource with each six goals. In the final match of the preliminary round France will meet Hungary who is equal in points (4:2). DR Congo is ranked fifth in group C with 0:8 points and will compete for the places 21 to 23.
