Women’s Preliminary Round: Group A
Despite confirming their status as the number one team in Buenos Aires with two wins out of two yesterday, U17 World Champions Hungary will face a much harder task today as they face two European sides in their pair of clashes on the second matchday.

After dispatching African side Mauritius and American Samoa from Oceania, the Hungarians will start their second day of matches against Russia, who will be desperate to get off of the mark having lost both of their encounters yesterday against Croatia and Taipei.

The Asian side will battle it out against fellow top team Croatia in their opener, as the Croatians hope to make it a third win in a row as they face Hungary later.

While Russia, Mauritius and American Samoa are without any points, at least one of them – and probably two – will have some later with Russia playing American Samoa, and Mauritius facing the Oceania team in their morning session.

Not surprisingly, considering their opponents, Hungary have the best defensive record in the competition, conceding just 19 points, while Chinese Taipei lead the scoring in the women’s competition with 108 points.

Women’s Preliminary Round: Group B
Topping the group thanks to dominant victories over Paraguay and Hong Kong, U17 world championship silver medallists Netherlands lead group B over hosts Argentina and their continental rivals Venezuela – all with four points – thanks to a better scoring record, but with the Venezuelans playing both Argentina and Netherlands today, the group will look much different come the end of the day as the women’s team wrap up the Olympic beach handball action with the last session starting at 1700hrs.

The opening game of the day for the hosts, in the midday sun against Venezuela, is sure to be a passionate affair with a packed central court expected as Argentina will be really tested for the first time, although, back in 2017, they beat the Venezuelans 2:0 (18:8, 15:10) in the preliminary round of the first-ever Pan American U17 Beach Handball Championships, on their way to qualifying for the 2017 IHF U17 World Championships.

Bottom teams Turkey, Paraguay and Hong Kong will all aim to keep their main round hopes alive as they play each other with all three teams hoping to end the day with their first Olympic points.
