Women’s Main Round: Day 1
Host nation Argentina have to make up ground on Hungary and Netherlands in the main round, lying two points behind at the start of play, having taken the same amount through from the preliminary round where they lost their clash against Netherlands yesterday morning.

History could be on their side though as they beat their first opponents today, Croatia, in a shoot-out at the 2017 Women’s U17 World Championship in Mauritius last year and opponents tomorrow, Chinese Taipei as well. But their second match today is against the perfect Hungarians who have a 100% record and are doing justice their position as the best in the world, having won the title in Mauritius.

They start their main round with the lowest-ranked team going through, Paraguay, who managed to get a last-gasp place in the final six thanks to a continental win against Venezuela yesterday.

Netherlands also take a perfect record into the main round, and alongside Hungary are clear favourites to progress, not least with their strong vocal supporters inside Sarmiento Park.

Chinese Taipei do have Pinchin Lin, one of the deadliest strikers at Buenos Aires 2018, having gone into the last match of the preliminary round leading the scoring charts with 60 points, 12 ahead of second-placed Rebeka Benzsay of Hungary.
