Placement Match 5 – 8

Sweden vs. Slovenia 33:22 (19:9) 

Everybody in the arena in Budaörs realized the disappointment of both teams about their elimination from the medal round in the quarter-finals. But after a short time Sweden found back to a normal way of playing, Slovenia didn’t. The team from the heart of Europe was not a real opponent today. Sweden dominated without any real resistance from the Slovenians in the first half and decided the match early in the first 30 minutes. The second half time was a mirror of the first 30 minutes. Sweden played without difficulties, Slovenia without heart. Only in the last minutes, if the Swedish team turned back two gears, the Slovenians scored some goals, but it was too late. Finally Sweden reached the match for rank 5. To win by 33:22 was a really easy job for the Scandinavians in the end.

 
Placement match 15 – 16 

Austria vs. Qatar 27:29 (16:12)

Qatar won the last match and finalized the tournament on place 15 – a great success for the talents from head coach Silvio Ivandija. It was a match with two completely different half times. In the first 30 minutes Austria dominated, played with speed but without a lot of mistakes and took the lead by 16:12. The second half was different. Qatar played powerful, caught up step by step and made the match exciting again. The Qataris played in a really good shape, surprised the Austrians and won the match by 29:27. The talents from Qatar celebrated not only their victory in this game, they celebrated also their performance at the whole tournament. A tournament which was a big disappointment for Austria: The Europeans could only win the first two matches and missed clearly their main goal, to reach the semi-final.
