The Scandinavians are heading the quarter-final

Austria – Norway 18:32 (8:16)

Norway made it to the quarter-final 

In the eight-final-match against Austria the Norwegian team showed a fast-paced and high-level performance, when they beat their competitor clearly with 32:18. Only for 18 minutes Austria was able to keep the match open. It was 6:6 when the Norwegian selection began to roll. Because of an excellent defense they provoke a lot of mistakes and came to many counter attacks. So they built up the lead to 11:6 and 16:7 after 28 minutes. This was the decisive period of the match, from which Austria could not recover for the rest of the match. After this real strong performance the Scandinavians are one of the favorites for this Junior World Championship. In the quarter-final they have to play against Serbia, while Austria goes to the placement round for the places 9 to 16 and will play their first match against Congo. The most successful player of this match was Sonja Frey (Austria) who scored seven times.

Serbia – Congo 37:19 (21:9)

No problems for Serbia

In the eight-final match against Congo, Serbia had little problems to come to a clear victory. After 60 one-sided minutes they beat their competitor with 37:19 and are now facing the quarter-final against Norway. One dominating first half decided this match, when Serbia was in the lead with 21:9. And even during the second half the African team hadn´t had the slightest chance to come back into this match. Congo will now play against Austria in the placement round (9 to 16), but nevertheless it is a great success for them to reach the knockout stages. Best scorer of this match was the Serbian player Sandra Filipovic, who made eight goals.

Spain – Sweden 24:27 (10:9)

The Scandinavians are heading the quarter-final

Due to a significant increase in performance during the second half of this match Sweden is the well-earned winner of the match against Spain, which was very tight for a long time. Spain had the better start in this eight-final and was in lead most of the times before break. So after the first 30 minutes the Iberian team was in lead with 10:9. But after the break things changed. During the last 15 minutes Sweden was the more powerful team and built up a pre-decisive six-goal-lead. At the end the Scandinavians won this match with 27:24, although Spain came up in the last minutes, and are now qualified for the quarter-final, where they are going to play against Russia. Spain, as the looser, will play in the placement round against Croatia.

Russia – Croatia 26:22 (12:9)

Russia was the better team

With a 26:22 victory against Croatia the Russian team has reached the quarter-final. The game went very clearly in the first half and gave the Russian a 12:9 lead. Almost the whole match Russia took the lead - at times even with six goals difference – and was the well-earned winner of this knockout match, even though Croatia was a strong competitor, who came up in the closing part of this match. Now Russia will meet Sweden for a very exciting quarter-final match and Croatia will play against Spain in the first round of the placement matches 9 to 16. Croatia’s Mila Toto was once more the most successful player, scoring eight goals.
