Spain third team in the semis

Still unbeaten team of Spain has booked their semi final ticket. With now 7:1 points after the clear 32:24 victory against Iceland they can’t be overtaken from any team from the second place in group I.

Group I: Iceland – Spain  24:32 (10:20)

Toreros on the run: After Denmark and Sweden in group II the day before the Spanish team has reached the semi-final with their sixth victory in their seventh game. France has the chance to follow their neighbours in their match against Norway this evening. If they win the decision about the group victory will be taken the final match day in the games France – Iceland and Spain – Hungary. The result of the Spanish match was surprisingly, as the Icelandics had won all their games in the Preliminary Round. Spain set the base for this important win in the first half, as they absolutely dominated their weak opponent. Apparently the defeat against Germany stopped the Icelandics, as they played without pressure in attack and with less motivation in defense. Spain scored 20 times in 30 minutes and the distance was already ten goals at the break. In the second half Spain controlled the match, even as Iceland reduced the gap to 20:25 by Arnor Atlasson in minute 45. But the Northern Europeans could not endanger the Iberians until the final score of 32:24. Top scorers were Gurbindo and Raul Entrerrios with each six goals.
