Eighth-final 3: Hungarian dream is over – Spain in quarterfinals

Spain vs. Hungary 25:23 (14:9)

Host Hungary lost the eighth-final match against Spain. The Spaniards were in lead quickly. But the Hungarians fought and could increase to only one goal difference in the middle of the first half. But that was just a burst of speed, as the team from Spain kept their concentration and the Hungarians on the other hand, were too nervous and missed too many chances to score a goal. Thus, Spain took the lead after 30 minutes with a clearly 14:9.

Nevertheless the atmosphere in the arena of Erd was great and the Hungarian spectators supported their team frenetically. But Spain found a way to win the match with 25:23 and qualified for the round of the best eight teams. Hungary showed their best performance and unluckily lost with a very tight final result.

 

Slovenia vs. Egypt 33:29 (15:13)

Only for a short time during the second half the door to the quarterfinal reopened for the talents from Egypt. Six minutes before the end the Egyptians had shortened their gap to Slovenia with three goals. But than the Europeans became stronger than before and won the match without difficulties. It was an intense game and Slovenia was only with slight advantages ahead at the end of the first half time. The Europeans seemed to be on the road to victory right after the break. And they were also leading in the middle of the second half with 7 goals. But six minutes before the final whistle, the Egyptians found a way back into the match. But it was too late. Slovenia won in the end 33:29.
