Preview of the President’s Cup

Those eight teams which missed the eight-finals of the XX Women’s World Championship will compete in the President’s Cup to go for the places 17 – 24 on Sunday and Monday. All five continents are represented in this part of the competition, which is played in Sao Paulo (first and second match day) and Sao Bernardo do Campo (placement matches 20-24 on 12 December).

The teams ranked fifth in their respective groups will play for the places 17 – 20, the teams ranked sixth will compete for the places 21 – 24.

By looking upon the ranking of the 2009 Women’s World Championship, Germany is the favourite for winning this trophy. The only European team in the President’s Cup reached place seven two years ago, followed by China (rank 12), Tunisia (rank 14), Argentina (19.), Kazakhstan (22.) and Australia (24.).
