President`s Cup: Japan first President’s Cup winner ever at a Youth World Championship

Place 17 - 18

Argentina vs. Japan 36:42 (16:18)

Japan is the first President’s Cup winner at a Youth World Championship ever. The talents from the land of the rising sun bet Argentina in the final match of the Cup by 42:36. As for the first time, 24 teams participated at a Youth World Championship, it was also for the first time that a Presidents Cup was held at a Youth WCh. Japan were dominating the game from the beginning on. The Asians played with a lot of joy, but also faster and more focused than their counterpart. Argentina fought intensely, but chanceless. So the Japanese youngsters decided the match for themselves and team captain Kosei Sukeyasu had the honour to be handed over the trophy by IHF Executive Member Joel Delplanque.


Place 19 - 20

Venezuela vs. Tunisia 28:43 (12:22)

Both teams showed great enthusiasm even though they were only competing for honour. Tunisia played from the beginning on faster than Venezuela and could take the lead already in the first half to a decisive 22:12 in half time break. The second half was more a performance of nice combinations which entertained the audience. Tunisia won clearly at the end.


Place 21 - 22

Korea vs. Angola 34:21 (12:12)

The match between Korea and Angola started after halftime literally from the beginning with a 12:12 draw. The Koreans could turn the match to their favor only after the break. The Asians had learned from the mistakes they had done at the first games. They divided their power better and increased their goal difference from 19:15 after 40 minutes to 29:18 after 50 minutes to a final result of 34:21 for the Asians. In conclusion the talents from the far east played better than they did during preliminary round. They had won all of their three last matches, which was one more than the teams from Venezuela and Argentina.

 
Place 23 - 24

Chile vs. Gabon 23:24 (10:9) 

Both teams were tired after six games in nine days. But both fought with dedication to reach a first victory in the tournament. In the first half, the Chileans were slightly better. But Gabon became stronger after the break. The team from Africa mobilized their last forces and could reach a lead in the last minutes. So, Gabon defended its lead in the final seconds and won the game.
