Placement Round 9 – 16: Belarus win after trilling match

Belarus vs. Austria 27:24 (10:11) [5:2]

For the first time in the tournament the regular match time was not enough to decide the winner of the match for the place 9 to 16. After long equal 60 minutes and a result of 22:22, a seven-meter-throw had to decide about the winners. With a penalty in the final second, Belarusian player Hleb Harbuz was the actual winner of the match. This goal had saved the draw for his team. The decision about the winners was finally taken at the shoot-out. The young Austrians lost their nerves and three of their players failed. The Belarusian goalkeeper Alyaksandr Markelau could save all their shots.

Qatar vs. Hungary 18:25 (9:12)

Hungary can still win! In their placement match, host Hungary defeated the surprise team from Qatar by 25:18. It was the first victory for Hungary after losing four games and it was an important victory for the talents of the Hungarian Handball Federation. Hungary will be, thanks to their victory, part of the first half in the final ranking. The Hungarians started powerful, impressed their opponents with their playing-style and took over the lead very fast. At halftime, the difference was three goals (12:9). Qatar caught up after the break, but could not hold the level for long. They lacked power and Hungary won the match by 25:18.
