Lopez: All the coaches learn from each other
17 Aug. 2015

Argentina Coach Osvaldo Lopez oversaw his sides’ 29:18 Placement 21/22 win against Venezuela this morning, ending Russia 2015 with two straight wins after their previous victory, on penalties, against Algeria 29:28.
Despite those two wins to take back to South America, Lopez was not happy with the tournament.
"Winning these last two games is not a success for us," he said after the Venezuela victory. "We have a bitter sensation after not being able to beat Japan or Tunisia [in the group stage].
"We were expecting something different in those games - we lost by one against Japan and our first 10 minutes of the second half were not good.
“If we had had the necessary concentration then we would have beaten them.”
Whilst the mental strength was lacking, Lopez was in no doubt about how his team - along with Brazil - which are one of the strongest nations in their continent, can improve in the future.
"The team has learnt here that they have to be more professional,” he said.
“When we compare ourselves to the European teams we have to improve and to understand how to improve, we definitely need to have more international competitions like this.”
As Argentina return home with the players gaining valuable experience, it is also the backroom staff of assistant coaches, physiotherapists, goalkeeping coaches, doctors and trainers who can take vital knowledge back.
"At the hotel, we were lucky to share with France, Slovenia, Japan, Tunisia and Brazil,” explained Lopez.
“Every night we talk with the other coaches, know their opinions and exchange compliments and criticism.
“All of that helps us grow up [as a handball nation]."
