Russia 2015: Place 5/6 and 7/8 Review
20 Aug. 2015

Norway vs. Sweden 27:32 (10:14) - 5/6 Place Match
Sweden took the Scandinavian honours for the second day running as they beat Norway by five to claim 5th place at Russia 2015.
The game was a repeat of the 5/6 match from the last IHF Men's Youth World Championship in 2013 where Norway won 26:20 to finish fifth and in a near complete-reversal, it was Sweden who won clearly to finish fifth in the second match at Divs today.
Whilst the passion of the earlier Norway-Iceland Preliminary Group game was not there, both teams wanted to leave Russia with a win and it was Sweden who took the bit between their teeth, going on a five-minute 6:0 run to half-time, going in 14:10 up.
Norway had been two up at 10:8 in the 23rd minute, but that was to prove the last time they were in the lead as Sweden made the most of their chances including an easy strike from left wing Cristoffer Bredolo to make it 20:13 as Norway had a slow transition from seven in attack.
Again Sweden's goalkeepers proved a tough test - as they finished the tournament on a near 38% save rate.
Brazil vs. Denmark 23:26 (14:16) - 7/8 Place Match
Brazil lost their third consecutive match at Russia 2015 and third loss in a row to a Scandinavian team - after their losses in the quarter-final against Iceland and yesterday against Norway.
The first half today was an even encounter as both teams shared 3:0 and 2:0 runs and if Brazil had not hit the bar with three seconds left of the half then the difference would have been just one after 30 minutes.
As it was, the Danes led 16:14 despite Brazilian centre-back Leonardo Ferreira trying his best to keep the proximity with six first half strikes.
Denmark coasted the second half until the 23rd minute when they took their foot off the gas with the game seemingly won at 25:19.
But Brazil are not a team to stop playing and a 4:0 run with Ferreira again in charge of the goals - he scored three with Pedro Umbelina scoring the fourth - saw the South Americans pull back to 25:23.
Of course Denmark's coach Morten Henriksen took a team time out to assess what his troops were doing and if it had not been for some sloppy Brazilian shooting and turnovers, the game could have ended in a draw.
As it was, Ferreira himself had a 7m on the buzzer, and after slapping hands with Emil Nielsen in the Danish goal, shot over as Brazil went down 26:23.
The result means title holders Denmark finish in 7th and Brazil finish in 8th - one place higher than the last edition - in 2013.
