12 teams ready to battle for IHF Trophy South and Central America – South American Zone

12 teams have been announced for the IHF Trophy South and Central America – South American Zone, which will take place between 7 and 11 June in San Lorenzo, Paraguay.

The event serves as qualification event for the Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy South and Central America.

There are two separate tournaments – one reserved for the youth teams (U18) and one for the junior sides (U20).

In the youth category, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela and hosts Paraguay compete for the trophy. Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and the hosts are vying for the junior title.

Each tournament will be played in a round-robin format, with all teams facing each other once. Following the usual IHF competition system, two points are awarded for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss. Final ranking will be based on points gained during the course of the event.

The youth competition will see hosts Paraguay throw off their tournament against Bolivia, while the first game, due to take place on 7 June, pits together Peru and Venezuela.

In the junior’s competition, Paraguay will also face Bolivia in the first game, on 7 June, while finishing the five-day tournament with a tie against Colombia.

IHF Technical Delegates from Argentina, Uruguay and the United States of America have been nominated for the event, along with referees from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay.
