Beach handball at the forefront of new USA eLearning platform

As part of their continued efforts to promote and grow the sport of handball in the United States, USA Team Handball (USATH) has launched a new educational platform to provide in-depth online learning for its members.

At the end of last year, USATH joined in partnership with eLearning specialists ‘etrainu’ to provide an online programme for its members to receive certifications in various aspects of the sport, including indoor and beach disciplines.

Beach handball will be the first to benefit on the new platform with a Level 1 certification in ‘Beach Referee and Beach Handball Timekeeper and Scorekeeper’ offered first.

The course was developed by Michelle Mensing who has been involved with the USA national beach handball teams as a player, coach and referee.

“In the past years we have seen beach handball grow from its pocket in California to being present at across both coasts and the Midwest,” she said.

“I am confident that this online course will help us unlock the next level of beach handball competitions in the USA.”

“Our new platform is poised to be a game-changer, bringing the excitement of handball education to a growing community,” added USATH CEO Martin Branick.

‍”I want to thank Michelle for her dedicated efforts in creating the beach handball referee content. In a landscape where beach handball is rapidly gaining traction, our new platform is poised to be a game-changer, bringing the excitement of handball education to a growing community.”

Looking for the latest talent

Beach handball formed part of a recent USATH Talent Identification Camp, held in California earlier this month (5-7 January).

Just under 30 athletes attended the three-day event which saw USA national team coaches of both indoor and beach teams in attendance.

The aim of the camp was to assess talent in an effort to increase the USA national team athlete pool and included court and sand sessions and matches against local teams.

Be the next USA women’s beach handball coach

The USATH are also welcoming applications for the role of Head Coach for their women’s senior national beach handball team.

The role involves leading the team in international competitions, as well as contributing to the recruitment and development of beach handball women and girls in the United States of America with a focus on developing and directing a high-level national team and increasing the participation of women playing beach handball in the USA.
