Group G: Egypt go for three out of three, Morocco's last chance for main round

Egypt are welcoming the last day in Jönköping in a relaxed manner, having already secured the main round berth and four points to take with them. Their opponents, the United States of America, can only hope for Croatia not to lose against Morocco in order to join Egypt in Malmö. Croatia have to seal the deal on the main round berth against Morocco, who will be motivated to defeat the European side and grab the last spot.

Egypt are the only team already in the main round and they have an easier task ahead. We will definitely see new things in Egypt's squad when playing against the United States of America in a match without great importance. If Roberto Parrondo rested some key players against Morocco, he will probably do the same against the United States of America.

Egypt start the main round journey with all four points. Full of confidence, the African side will try to repeat the team's former success and reach the quarter-finals. 
On the other hand, the USA surprised everyone at the start of the World Championship and defeated Morocco 24:23. The first World Championship appearance after 22 years and its first win brought Robert Hedin's players a historic chance to progress to the main round. Even if they don't perform a miracle and defeat Egypt, they are still through to their first-ever main round if Morocco lose to Croatia.

While no official matches are played between the USA and Egypt, they still met once at a friendly tournament back in 1996. The African team won 31:22.

Croatia got back on track by outclassing the United States of America. It was something everyone was expecting, and now they have to repeat the same against Morocco. Winning against the African side will not bring them additional points for the main round, but it will bring them a definitive main round spot and the calm before the storm.

In their eighth World Championship appearance, Morocco have failed to qualify for the main round for the second time in a row. At Egypt 2021, they lost the main round spot after a narrow 24:23 defeat by Algeria, after leading by seven in the first half of the match. With a good defence and an excellent performance by goalkeeper Alae Laaroussi, Morocco will step up a gear to make Croatia sweat.

"In general, they are aggressive. They are looking for a game with more goals. The only option for them to try to qualify for the main round is to defeat us. That is why we need to respect the situation and the fact that they are ready to give their best against us", said Croatia's goalkeeper Dino Slavić to Sportske novosti newspaper ahead of the match against Morocco.

In the last decade, Croatia and Morocco did not cross paths. The last match between the Croats and Moroccans was at the 2007 Men's World Championship, when Croatia won 35:22. Two previous encounters happened in 1997 and 1995 and both times the Croatians also were the winning side.
