Club Ministros book IHF Men’s Super Globe ticket

Six clubs from Mexico, the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico participated in the North American and the Caribbean Handball Conferedation (NACHC) Men’s Club Championship, with home side Club Ministros claiming the title and a ticket to the 2022 IHF Men’s Super Globe to be held in Saudi Arabia in October. 

In an all-Mexican final, Club Ministros, who had been runners-up in the previous edition of the tournament in 2021, defeated Club Vikingos in an extremely tight fight 23:22. Club Vikingos had the upper hand at the break, leading 14:8, but Ministros managed a strong second-half comeback and won the title.

2021 champions San Francisco CalHeat from the USA finished third in this year’s edition of the event, which took place at Arena Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico, from 25 to 30 July. The US side defeated Puerto Rico’s Los Guerilleros in the third-place match 32:27.

In the group stage, both Mexican teams actually finished second, but in the semi-finals, Club Ministros beat Los Guerilleros 31:29, and Club Vikingos proved too strong for San Francisco CalHeat, 27:25.

Canada’s Club De Handball De Levis finished fifth, defeating New York Athletic Club 38:37. However, New York’s Israel Bayardo became the top scorer of the competition with 33 goals.
