50 IHF D Licences awarded at Tanzania courses

Two IHF D Licence coaching courses recently held in Tanzania saw success rates of almost 100%, with a total of 50 new licences issued. The courses were held in the cities of Dar es Salaam and Mwanza, and run by IHF Commission of Coaching and Methods lecturer Klaus Feldmann.

While all 25 participants in Dar es Salaam obtained the qualification through participation in the course and passing the test, one participant of the 26 in Mwanza was unable to attend the final test and received a certificate of participation instead. The course in Mwanza took place from November 30 to December 6, while the course in Dar es Salaam was held from December 8 to 14.

As with all D Licence — and other — IHF coaching qualifications, the participants were required to learn both theoretical and practical components, with sessions taking place on court as well as off. Typically such courses include addressing core elements of the game such as handball basics for coaching or teaching children, attack, defence, structuring training sessions and improving more specific individual skills. On the theoretical side, participants are often asked to run a session or plan one — or several.

The course attracted local interest with TV and radio stations attending sessions in Dar es Salaam.
