10 teams enter the Women’s Mediterranean Handball Confederation Championship (U17)

The 16th edition of the Women's Mediterranean Handball Confederation (MHC) Championship (U17) will take place in Nafplio, Greece, with 10 teams ready to measure their strength between 27 February and 4 March.

After eight teams took part in the competition last year, there has been an increase in participation in this event with ten teams from two different continents competing for the title.

Eight European teams – hosts Greece, Spain, Italy, Kosovo, Türkiye, Montenegro, Croatia and Romania – will take part, joined by two African sides – Algeria and Tunisia – who will be trying to cause trouble.

In the last edition of the Women's Mediterranean Handball Confederation Championship, Montenegro were crowned champions on their home court in Podgorica, despite losing the final against Romania, 18:20, with Romania playing in the competition only as a guest, not being part of the Mediterranean Handball Confederation.

It is the fourth time Greece will host a competition of the Mediterranean Handball Confederation after 2005 (Paralia Katerini), 2006 (Loutraki) and 2020 (Athens) and the first women's.

The Women's Mediterranean Games (U17) in Nafplion is the fifth international handball event hosted by Greece in the last three years, after the 2020 Mediterranean Men's Games (U18) in Athens, the IHF Men's and Women's Youth Beach Handball World Championship and the IHF Beach Handball World Championship for both men and women in Heraklion in June 2022.

Greece will also be co-hosting the 2023 IHF Men's Junior World Championship alongside Germany this June.
