Costa Rica claim two wins on day two in Guatemala

The youth and junior competitions at the Central American Zone of the Women's IHF Trophy South and Central American in Guatemala City continued with five matches played on Wednesday 10 May.

At the youth (U17) tournament, Nicaragua claimed their second straight win, beating El Salvador 25:10, while Costa Rica celebrated a 27:13 victory against Panama. Home side Guatemala had a rest day.

Nicaragua lead the race with the maximum of four points, and Guatemala are second-placed with two points after just one match. Costa Rica are also on two points, but after two games. El Salvador and Panama are yet to take their maiden points. 

On day three, Panama face Nicaragua at 13:00 (local time), and El Salvador meet Guatemala. Costa Rica enjoy a rest day. 

Two teams, Costa Rica and Guatemala, maintain a perfect record at the junior (U19) event following their second straight win on Wednesday. Costa Rica had the upper hand against Honduras, 25:14, while Guatemala defeated Nicaragua (33:12). In the third encounter, El Salvador were dominant against Panama, winning 39:14.

Costa Rica and Guatemala have four points, and they are followed by El Salvador and Honduras, who are tied on two points. Nicaragua and Panama have lost all their matches so far.

Three more games will be held on Thursday: Costa Rica face Panama at 11:00, Honduras meet Nicaragua at 15:00, and El Salvador play Guatemala at 19:00.
