Women's IHF trophy in Guatemala kicked off

The youth and junior competitions at the Central American Zone of the Women's IHF Trophy South and Central American threw off with five matches played on Tuesday 9 May in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Both events are held in a round-robin format. At the youth (U17) tournament featuring five national teams, Nicaragua beat Costa Rica in a low-scoring match (18:15), while home side Guatemala proved too strong for Panama (61:12). 

On Wednesday, Costa Rica face Panama at 13:00 (local time), while Nicaragua meet El Salvador at 17:00. Guatemala have a rest day.

At the junior (U19) event, where six teams compete, the hosts Guatemala were also dominant against Panama, taking a 64:18 victory. And unlike in the youth competition, Costa Rica managed to defeat Nicaragua (34:14).
 
The match between El Salvador and Honduras was the tightest, as Honduras won by the smallest of margins (22:21).

On day two, Costa Rica face Honduras at 11:00, El Salvador meet Panama at 15:00, and Guatemala play Nicaragua at 19:00.
