Hosts New Caledonia claim two early wins at Women's IHF Trophy Oceania

The Women's IHF Trophy Oceania in Nouméa, New Caledonia, threw off on Monday, 16 October, with three matches played in both youth and junior age categories.

The only match in the youth (U17) tournament featured the teams from New Caledonia and Tahiti, and the home side were clearly dominant, cruising to a commanding 33:15 victory.

On Tuesday, New Zealand enter the competition, as their encounter with Tahiti is scheduled for 18:00 (local time). New Caledonia have a rest day.

In the junior (U19) competition, New Caledonia also started with a clear win, beating Cook Islands 38:10. In the other match, both New Zealand and Australia primarily focused on defence, but New Zealand had the upper hand and enjoyed a 19:15 win.

On day two, Australia play Cook Islands at 16:00, with both rivals hoping to earn their maiden points, and at 20:00, New Zealand face Tahiti. Just like at the youth event, home side New Caledonia have a day off.
