African men's junior teams all set for continental championship

Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, will be the host for the CAHB African Men’s Junior Championship and the CAHB African Men’s Youth Championship over the next two weeks, with the new champions crowned after a four-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which prompted the cancellation of the two tournaments in 2020.

First, the 29th edition of the CAHB African Men’s Junior Championship will take place from 20 to 27 August 2022, with 10 teams taking part, that will be divided into two groups of five teams each.

Egypt and Tunisia, the most decorated sides in the competition, who combine for 16 gold medals and have won the tournament in every edition since 1988, are at the start, alongside Algeria, Angola, Chad, the Central African Republic, Congo, Libya, Morocco and hosts Rwanda.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format in the group phase, with the top two sides qualifying for the semi-finals, which are due to be played on 26 August, with the final and the bronze-medal game scheduled one day later, on 27 August. The third-placed sides in the group phase will feature in the 5/6 Placement Match.

The event serves as qualification for the 2023 IHF Men’s Junior (U21) World Championship, which will be held in Germany and Greece.
