Vujisic, “a man who left a deep trail”

EHF delegate and President of the Union of Handball Referees and Delegates for Montenegro Nebojsa Vujisic passed away unexpectedly at the age of 51 on Saturday. The Union of handball referees and delegates for Montenegro describe him as “a man who left a deep trail as a judge and was one of the most respected European delegates.”

Together with Predrag Pavicevic, Vujisic formed the best Montenegrin referee pair for many years, whistling the toughest domestic matches and European cup competitions. After ending his refereeing career in 2010, Vujisic became a delegate for the European Handball Federation.

In the past nine seasons, Vujisic oversaw more than 100 national team and club matches as a delegate, observer and supervisor. His last match as a delegate was the EHF EURO 2020 qualifiers game between North Macedonia and Greece in Strumica in June.

“The large number of nominations in all major competitions, both club and national teams, shows how much our Vuja was valued in the EHF,” wrote Stefan Ivanovic, secretary to the Union of Handball Referees and Delegates for Montenegro.

Within Montenegro, four new pairs became international referees during Vujisic’s time as President of the Union of Handball Referees and Delegates.

A commemorative memorial was held on Tuesday in Podgorica, with the funeral to follow.

IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa and the IHF would like to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Nebojsa Vujisic, the Union of Handball Referees and Delegates for Montenegro, the Handball Federation of Montenegro, and the European Handball Federation.
