Hong Kong and Vietnam reach finals in both age categories at IHF trophy

The preliminary stage of the Women’s IHF Trophy Asia Zone 1A in Hong Kong ended on Wednesday 12 July, so the finalists were determined at both age categories.

At the youth (U17) tournament, 17 goals from Purevdorj Yanjindulam helped Mongolia to beat Macao on Tuesday (39:8), and on the same day, Vietnam defeated home side Hong Kong (23:16).

On Wednesday, Vietnam claimed their third straight win, defeating Mongolia 26:12, while Hong Kong proved too strong for Macao (30:12).

So the two best-ranked sides – Vietnam (nine points) and Hong Kong (six) – will face off in the final match on 14 July at 12:00 (local time). The day before, Mongolia and Macao will meet in the third-place encounter at 12:00.

Vietnam and Hong Kong will also play each other in the final of the junior (U19) competition, which will be held on 14 July at 14:00. Mongolia and Macao will fight for the bronze on 13 July, also at 14:00.

Unlike at the youth event, home team Hong Kong earned the maximum of nine points at the junior tournament, as they beat Vietnam by the smallest of margins (25:24) on Tuesday and defeated Macao 30:12 on day three.

Vietnam, who proved too strong for Mongolia on Wednesday (38:20), ended the preliminary stage with six points, above Mongolia (three points) and Macao (zero).
