17 Jul. 2023
The Women's IHF Trophy Asia Zone 1A in Hong Kong lasted from 10 to 14 July 2023, ending with the final matches in both age categories on Friday.
Home team Hong Kong earned the youth and junior competitions titles, so they booked their tickets to the Continental Phase of the Women's IHF Trophy Asia.
In the final match of the youth (U17) tournament, Hong Kong and Vietnam were level at half-time (9:9) before the hosts took the upper hand in the second half to win 19:16.
Hong Kong's Fung Tin Yan became the top scorer of this low-scoring match with seven goals, and his impact helped his team to take revenge on Vietnam for a 16:23 defeat at the preliminary stage.
In the third-place match, which took place on Thursday, Mongolia proved too strong for Macao, taking a comfortable 18:6 win.
The final positions were the same at the junior (U19) event, as Hong Kong also beat Vietnam in the final. Although the home team were up 15:10 at the break, Vietnam drew level at 25:25 at the end of the regular time, so Hong Kong needed an extra time to snatch a 27:26 victory, as their player Yu Chi Wing scored nine goals.
Just like at the youth competition, Mongolia won bronze, beating Macao in the third-place encounter (37:13).
