Polish and Croatian teams dominate the start of the ebt 2021/22

The 2021/22 season of the European Beach Handball Tour (ebt) threw off in Beachclub Ladvi in Prague last weekend, with the fourth edition of the Prague Open Beach Handball. 

The tournament was played on three courts and divided into two separate events hosted by two inflatable arenas – the ebt and a youth tournament – with 15 teams playing in the senior tournament, while 17 teams played in the Winter Youth Tournament in three categories, including the Czech Republic’s national junior teams.

In the ebt men’s tournament, which featured a nine-team line-up from six different countries, Polish side BHT GRU JUKO Piotrków Trybunalski secured the gold medal, after winning the final against British team London Beach HC in straight sets, 2:0. The Polish side dropped only one game, in the group phase, where they were beaten by the Czech Lions.

The final place on the podium was secured by the Czech Republic junior team, the Czech Lions, while Croatian team BHC Zagreb finished fourth, as the Lions took a narrow 2:1 win in the bronze-medal game.

However, BHC Zagreb avenged the loss in the men’s competition with a strong outing in the women’s senior tournament, where they won the title after a hard-fought final against Czech side Gorilí Santové. 

BHC Zagreb dropped only a single set in seven games played in the tournament, dominating their opponents on the way to the trophy.

The Czech women’s junior national team, the Czech Lioness, finished third. Six teams from three different countries competed for the title.

The Prague Open Beach handball 2022 underlined the rapid development of beach handball in the Czech Republic, as the competition finished without major incidents, despite the current health situation in the country.
